About

Currently, I am based in Dortmund, Germany 🇩🇪, where I lead the research Group of Data Analytics in Sport Science. I am also affiliated with the Research Unit of Health Science and Technology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland 🇫🇮, where I work with several talented researchers.

When I moved to TU Dortmund, together with fellow colleagues we started a new English-taught program (yes, in English, and we keep everything completely international) in Data Science in Sports and Health, which took its first cohort of students in October 2025. We are very proud of our program.

Overall, my research focuses on applied machine learning and data science, particularly in fields related to movement, sports, and health. In my research, I have worked with a broad range of methods and analytical approaches, including, but not limited to, statistical regression models, compositional data analysis, machine learning, deep learning, and large language models. We are data scientists; depending on the research question and field of application in the areas we are excited about, we select and apply the most appropriate methods and tools to address the specific research problem.
